Clinical application of prostaglandins

Estrus at the same time
The estrous cycle of livestock is affected by a variety of hormones, prostaglandins have the function of degenerating the corpus luteum, the use of PGF2α or chloroprostagtenol to regulate the animal estrus cycle, can make animals estrus at the same time, facilitate centralized artificial insemination or embryo transfer, to achieve the purpose of planned organization of production, large-scale sales of livestock products, thereby saving labor and management costs. In the season of adult ewes in estrus, chloroprost is injected intramuscularly into two times, each time the dosage is 0.1~0.2mg, and the interval between the two injections is 9~10d [4], which can make estrus reach a high degree of contemporaneity; Progestogen, vaginal plugs and PMSG (330 IU) have been shown to increase the proportion of females in heat and conception .
Simultaneous delivery
Intramuscular injection of PGF2α in the same group of sows, combined with the use of oxytocin, can not only significantly shorten the farrowing time of sows, but also effectively control the daytime farrowing of sows, which is conducive to batch breeding management of large-scale pig farms. Tao Tao [6] et al. used chloroprostol intramuscular injection into late-pregnancy sows, which can start farrowing at about 24h, mainly because exogenous chloroprostenol promotes luteal lysis in pregnancy. Cloprostol, combined with relaxin, treated cows delivered at the same time, compared with chloroprostol alone, the placenta can be excreted within 1 days, and the proportion of delayed expulsion is significantly reduced, while stillbirth retention is avoided . The injection method has a greater effect on the induction of labor, and the general injection of prostaglandins and their analogues in the vulva will increase the effect of induced labor.
Treatment of persistent corpus luteum
Persistent corpus luteum can cause estrus and infertility. Prostaglandins can act directly on the corpus luteum cells, quickly dissolving the corpus luteum and reducing the secretion of progesterone. After the exogenous prostaglandins reach the uterine vein with blood circulation, they are transported into the ovarian artery in the opposite direction to the uterine vein through reverse transport, and directly dissolve the corpus luteum after reaching the ovary. The intrauterine input amount of chloroprostenol is 0.2~0.4mg, intramuscular injection 0.4~0.6mg, and estrus can occur within 3~5d of injection, and the effect of intrauterine injection is the best [8].
