Cloprostenol sodium injection

Cloprostenol sodium injection is a synthetic prostaglandin F2α (PGF2α) analogue used in veterinary medicine to improve reproductive health in cattle. This sterile, colourless solution provides accurate dosing and consistent efficacy for a wide range of reproductive disorders in beef and dairy cows, as well as replacement heifers.

Composition

Each 1 millilitre of cloprostenol injection contains:

  • Cloprostenol: 250 mcg (equal to 263 mcg of cloprostenol sodium).
  • Sodium citrate (6.1 mg)
  • Anhydrous citric acid is 0.56 mg.
  • Sodium chloride: 6.7 mg.
  • Benzyl alcohol: 20 mg.
  • Water for injection: Q.S.

Application Indications

Cloprostenol sodium injection is intended for:

1. Estrus Induction

  • For cows or heifers that have not had their estrus detected or observed.
  • Supports controlled breeding operations and increases reproductive efficiency.

2. Treatment for Reproductive Disorders

  • Pyometra or Chronic Endometritis
  • Mummified fetus.
  • Luteal cysts
  • Helps to restore normal cyclicity and reproductive health in afflicted animals.

3. Estrus Synchronization

  • Fixed-time artificial insemination (FTAI) in nursing dairy cows can be performed alone or with gonadorelin.
  • Ensures that ovulation occurs at the optimal time for breeding success.

5. Abortion Induction

Abortion can be induced in beef and dairy cows at appropriate phases of gestation under veterinary care.

Mechanism of Action.

Cloprostenol induces functional and morphological regression of the corpus luteum (luteolysis) in cattle. Its effects differ based on the animal's reproductive condition:

  • Non-pregnant cycling animals have estrus 2 to 5 days after treatment.
  • Animals with prolonged luteal function (e.g., pyometra, luteal cysts, or mummified fetus): Luteolysis corrects the problem and restores regular estrous cycles.
  • Pregnant animals: Abortion may be induced depending on the gestational stage.

Benefits of Veterinary Practice

  • Enhances reproductive efficiency and breeding management.
  • Enables estrus synchronization for scheduled artificial insemination.
  • Resolves reproductive problems, hence restoring cyclicity and fertility.
  • Enhances herd health and productivity in beef and dairy enterprises.

Cloprostenol sodium injection is a reliable and successful method in cattle reproductive management, providing veterinarians with a flexible alternative for estrus control, reproductive problems, and synchronized breeding plans. Proper administration under veterinary supervision guarantees safety and best results.
