Basic Meaning Of Protein

Protein is a biological macromolecule composed of long chains of amino acids joined together via dehydration condensation. These chains fold into a distinct three-dimensional shape, enabling proteins to execute various roles within the body.

Proteins are composed of carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, and nitrogen, with some also containing sulphur or phosphorus. They are necessary for survival; without protein, the human body cannot operate correctly.

Protein Structure Explained.

Proteins are composed of α-amino acids organized in a certain sequence. This region controls how the polypeptide chain folds and the protein functions. Every protein contains:

  • a distinct amino acid type and quantity,
  • A precise order, and
  • a predefined spatial structure.

These features are encoded by genes, which instruct ribosomes in the rough endoplasmic reticulum to produce protein.

Why Is Protein Important for the Human Body?

Protein serves numerous important functions, including:

  • Building and healing tissues
  • Creating enzymes and hormones,
  • Supporting immunological function
  • Enabling muscular action,
  • Transporting nutrients.

Protein is the building block of human tissues and organs, and it is involved in all major life processes.

Protein Deficiency Effects on Men

Protein insufficiency affects anyone, but in men, it can cause:

  • Reduced sperm quality
  • Low sperm motility,
  • Non-liquefaction of sperm can lead to male infertility.

How Proteins Function in the Body

After synthesis, amino acids in proteins can be post-translationally modified to assist regulate and activate protein function. Some proteins also unite to form protein complexes, which help them perform more efficiently.
