What Does HCG Do To Males

Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG) and Its Effects on Men

1. Stimulation of Spermatogenesis
hCG plays a crucial role in stimulating sperm production in the male testes. Structurally similar to luteinizing hormone (LH), hCG acts on the Leydig cells within the testes, promoting the synthesis and secretion of testosterone. This androgen is vital for spermatogenesis, supporting processes such as spermatogonia proliferation, meiosis, and maturation of sperm cells. In men with oligospermia caused by hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis dysfunction, hCG therapy can enhance sperm production and improve fertility outcomes.

2. Maintenance of Secondary Sexual Characteristics
Testosterone, supported by hCG-induced secretion, is essential for maintaining male secondary sexual characteristics, including facial hair, deep voice, muscle mass, and bone density. Low testosterone levels can lead to diminished traits such as thinning beard, muscle loss, and decreased bone mineral density. hCG therapy helps maintain adequate testosterone levels, thereby preserving or restoring these characteristics.

3. Support of Pubertal Development
During puberty, hCG contributes to testicular growth and the maturation of reproductive tissues, often in coordination with follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). It plays a key role in the normal development of male reproductive organs. In cases of delayed puberty due to congenital or hormonal deficiencies, hCG can be used therapeutically to initiate or accelerate sexual development.

4. Treatment of Male Hypogonadism
hCG is also used in the treatment of male hypogonadism, a condition marked by impaired testosterone production due to testicular or hypothalamic-pituitary dysfunction. Symptoms include low testosterone, sexual dysfunction, decreased libido, osteoporosis, and metabolic disorders. hCG mimics endogenous gonadotropins, stimulating testosterone secretion, improving sexual and reproductive function, and helping prevent long-term complications such as cardiovascular disease and metabolic syndrome.
